I see this all the time. Female content that obsessively focuses on how you look outside, and don’t get me wrong—I myself am a preacher of how life-changing grooming can be in regards to better mental health, and growing confidence. When you look after yourself, your posture literally changes in real time.

But what does that posture change even amount to if there is no substance in it? When you have the beauty but not the inner wealth that adds depth to it?

It’s like trying to stand straight with a poorly functioning spine. Eventually you’ll droop, and then you’ll need crutches. That will be hard, because beauty is a slave to time and looks change. There is only so much you can force it in with botox, fillers and cosmetic intervention. This is coming from someone who grew up in an environment where people constantly reminded her she has nothing more valuable to add to this world except for being a pretty face. I have been anorexic, I have had eating disorders, I have been obese, I have hated looking myself in the mirror, and so much more.

It was only after having daughters of my own that I realised what a pickle I was in. I realised I was miserable not because I had lost the beauty I was offering to the world, but objectively, truly, I really had nothing else to offer. It was years of conditioning and poor thinking. All this beauty I relied on to make myself feel valuable had eventually failed me. My brain was as good as an empty field for cows to graze on, only it did not even have a full spread of bright grass. This is the similar trajectory for all females or males who rely on how they look to get them whatever they desire in life. It may work for some time, because human beings can be swept to a certain extent, but you must remember that it is only for a certain amount of time.

Complacency is the enemy of growth and impact. You must always expand. Stretch wide, but not snap. That is the way to bring true impact, wealth of mind to any room, life and conversation. Beauty is currency, yes. It will open doors for you. Let you in. But influence and presence are what people remember when you leave.

Why should people remember you? Did you have a fascinating point of view on a matter that only someone with similar life experiences as you could have? Do you smile or wince when you think of your museum of failures? What makes you rebel? What makes you observe? What have you realised that you know most people haven’t? What is that one thing you believe that would make a table of sixteen gasp?

You know what I’m getting at.

You can use beauty as a crutch, but make sure that spine is built of something solid.
